Rina arrives at her punishment posting and stops a free raid by turning the broken entry into a ticketed preview.
Rain slapped the broken ticket bell hard enough to make it cough sparks. Rina Sol caught the bell before it fell off Hearthbeat Dungeon's gate, burned her thumb on the cracked brass, and found a handwritten sign nailed under it.
FREE RAIDING UNTIL DEBT SALE.
The last word had been underlined three times.
Behind the gate, a slime no bigger than a stage light trembled in a puddle of pink mana. Three heroes in travel cloaks were already stepping over the snapped turnstile. Their leader lifted a scry crystal toward Rina's face.
"Perfect," Kai Arden said. "The canceled idol is here. Smile for my channel before we clear your punishment dungeon."
Rina kept her wet hair out of her eyes with two fingers and looked past him the way she used to look past hecklers in the third balcony. Entry arch cracked. Floor rune dark. No posted terms. One monster employee terrified enough to flatten itself. A free raid would tear the place apart before she learned where the broom closet was.
"You are standing on my stage," she said.
Kai laughed. "Your stage was canceled."
"Then you can afford admission."
The smallest hero snorted. The second one reached for the gate chain. Rina stepped on the loose turnstile pedal, twisted the ticket bell's exposed wire around the chain, and slapped the brass with her palm. The sound came out ugly, half clang and half dying bird, but the gate flashed red.
A pane of dungeon text blinked in front of her.
MANAGER UNREGISTERED. POST TERMS TO ACTIVATE PAID ENTRY.
Rina's throat tightened. Manager. Not exile. Not trash assignment. A job title, even if the job was trying to bite her.
She tore the scandal notice off her assignment packet, flipped it over, and wrote with the eyeliner pencil still in her sleeve.
Preview Raid: 3 silver per hero. No lethal force. No unpaid treasure removal. Stream rights require manager approval. Slime performer not to be kicked.
Kai leaned close enough for his crystal to catch the rain dripping off her chin. "You think rules stop heroes?"
"No," Rina said. "Audiences do."
She shoved the notice into the gate frame. The dungeon core must have been desperate, because the letters burned pink at once. The turnstile snapped upright and struck Kai across the thigh with a wooden clack. His viewers, visible as tiny comments inside the scry crystal, exploded into laughing glyphs.
The slime squeaked.
Rina pointed at the puddle. "Name?"
"Momo," the slime whispered, and tried to hide behind a loose floor tile.
"Momo, when I raise my left hand, you cross from the blue crack to the lantern shadow. Slow at first. Big wobble on the second step. No touching boots unless they pay for contact scares."
Kai's smile faltered. "You are giving the slime blocking?"
"I am giving my performer a mark." Rina lifted her chin toward his scry crystal. "Your channel can watch the free lobby. The raid starts after payment."
The second hero muttered, "Kai, just pay. Chat is calling you cheap."
"Chat can raid a ditch."
His scry crystal chimed. A donation glyph bloomed over it: PAY THE LADY OR LOSE THE BET.
Rina held out her palm. She did not let it shake. That was the first lesson every trainee idol learned: the hand could sweat after the curtain fell.
Kai dropped three silver coins into her hand as if they were insults. The dungeon swallowed them through her skin before she could flinch. Light crawled along the floor cracks. Not much. Enough to show nail heads, mold, the place where Momo needed to cross, and the hole in the ceiling where rain was becoming a hazard instead of ambience.
MANAGER: RINA SOL.
PAID ENTRY: ONE PARTY.
CURRENT DEBT: 9,997 GOLD, 7 SILVER.
Rina nearly laughed. Three silver against ten thousand gold. Her comeback had opened with math cruel enough to have a fan club.
"Terms accepted," she said. "Preview route begins on my count."
Kai rolled his shoulders and drew his practice sword. "I clear F-rank dungeons before breakfast."
"Good. Then you can clear one with lighting."
She dragged a cracked lantern stand with her heel, angling its weak beam into the puddle. Momo moved when her left hand rose, just as told. The slime slid through the blue floor crack, caught the lantern shadow, and swelled until its round body threw a monster shape three times larger against the wet wall.
The smallest hero yelped and stepped back into the turnstile.
Kai's crystal chimed again, faster this time.
"That's not a scare," he snapped.
Rina took two quick steps to the side, clapped twice, and the sound runes in the entry arch answered with a cheap echo that made the little slime's squeak roll like a chorus. Kai swung at the shadow. His wooden blade struck wall, bounced, and sent old plaster into his hair.
Momo stared at Rina, round eyes huge.
"Again?" the slime asked.
"Again, but bow after."
Kai recovered, cheeks red. "This is a trick room."
"This is a dungeon," Rina said. "You bought the preview."
The heroes advanced more carefully now. That mattered. Careful feet did less damage. Careful eyes followed marks. Rina kept moving at the edge of the light, counting steps, counting comments, counting the way Kai tried to look bored whenever the stream laughed.
When the party reached the inner door, the core flickered hard enough to make every crack in the lobby glow.
PREVIEW COMPLETE.
REPAIR CREDIT AVAILABLE: TICKET BELL OR CEILING LEAK.
The ceiling chose that moment to dump a cold ribbon of rain down Rina's neck. Momo gave a tiny bow anyway. The scry crystal filled with applause glyphs, cheap and bright and not yet money, but the dungeon drank them like water.
Kai wiped plaster from his sleeve. "I want a rematch. A real one."
"Then next time," Rina said, closing her burned hand around the hot ticket bell wire, "you book a slot."
The gate behind him rang by itself. A second pane opened, sharper than the first.
DEBT SALE IN THIRTY DAYS. MINIMUM WEEKLY PAYMENT DUE BY MIDNIGHT.
Rina looked at the number, then at the slime still bowing in a puddle under a leaking roof.
The stage had teeth. Fine.
She had worked worse rooms.
